Earl Talbot Obituary

Earl John Talbot of West Point, Utah, returned to his Father in Heaven on the morning of June 3, 2023 in the arms of his loving wife Marygail following his second battle with cancer.

Earl was born January 26, 1954 in Ogden, Utah. He is the oldest of three children born to Dale Earl and Vera Dye Talbot.

Earl is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He spent his entire life serving others in many capacities within his church and community. Although he loved all of his opportunities to serve, two of his favorite callings were serving in the nursery and in the Special Needs Mutual with his wife Marygail.

Earl was called and served in the “Alaska/British Columbia and the Yukon” mission from 1973-75. During his mission he spent a lot of time in the home of the mission leader Bruce Robinson. After his mission he connected with Marygail Robinson when she left Alaska to attend College in Idaho. They fell in love and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple on July 18, 1975. Together they raised three sons. Those sons and their eternal companions blessed them with their ‘Sweet 16’ grandchildren.

Earl spent most of his working career as a journeyman steamfitter/welder; his work included projects for the Alaska oil pipeline. When the economy shifted, Earl began working in car sales with the Young Automotive Group where he built a strong business. His integrity and honesty allowed him to excel with many repeat customers. His traditional employment ended with his first cancer diagnosis.

Earl was an inspiration to every life he touched. He never met anyone he couldn’t befriend and regardless of where he went, he was recognized and approached by those who knew and loved him.

One of the great joys of his life was being Santa’s helper. He helped bring the magic to countless children and adults while making sure Christmas was never “just about the stuff.”

He is one of the few survivors of Pancreatic cancer. After being diagnosed and aggressively treated in 1999 with Chemotherapy, Radiation treatments and the Whipple procedure, Earl Whipple’d cancer’s A$$. We are convinced Earl’s determination to become a grandpa made this possible. He always told us how he asked God to let him stick around long enough to see one grandchild. That wish was granted 16 times over. The influence he has had on these precious grandkids will remain with them throughout their lives.

Surviving cancer led to an increased commitment between Marygail and Earl, to spend every possible moment together creating memories. They worked on projects, traveled, dated, prayed, and did everything possible together. The love they have for one another set an example for their children, and is easily identified by those around them. Their love continues…

Being unable to work in a traditional sense, Earl rediscovered his love of leatherwork that was kindled as a cub scout. His craft led him to join with the Local Artisan Collective soon after its founding. People from all over the world are proud owners of Earl’s Handcrafted Leatherwork. Truly his gifts created for his family gave him the deepest joy.

He lived cancer free until being diagnosed with Liver cancer in the spring of 2022. He gave another valiant fight surrounded by his loving wife and family. Living as a cancer survivor was not easy. Earl taught us all how to enjoy every moment and continues to be an example of positivity, optimism, and never complaining while reassuring and comforting those around him.

Earl is survived by his beautiful wife of 48 years, Marygail, their three sons Quinn (Amy) of West Point, Justin (Katie) of Mountain Green, Jake (Sarah) of Smithfield, 16 grandchildren Sydnie, Grace, Abby (Scott), Rhett, Audrey, Gage, Cache, Savannah, Izzy, Nora, Blake, Olivia, Lily, Luke, Derek, Sam; his sister Diane Westergard and his brother Bruce Talbot.

He was preceded in death by Dale and Vera Talbot, Bruce and Darlene Robinson, Len Westergard         and Carol Robinson.

Thank you to his long-time primary care doctor Cory Ferguson, his oncology team Dr. Michael Hessenauer and Dr. Eric Johnson and their compassionate staff.
