Earnestine Jones Steward “Sista” as she was affectionately known departed this life for everlasting life on June 13, 2022 surrounded by her family, she fought a valiant fight. She was born February 26, 1936 to Ernest Jones and Missouri Parker in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She moved to Ogden, UT in 1950 where she graduated from Ogden High School and later attended Weber State College and received her teaching degree and she was a certified CNA.
She married LD Steward in 1956 and of this union she was blessed with 11 children. They were later divorced. Earnestine was a member of New Zion Baptist church, and later attended 2nd Baptist church with her children. She was a teacher at Ogden Area Community Action and a CNA at Manor Care where she later retired. She supported and served people and was a pillar in her community.
“Sista” had a zest for life. She loved traveling to her family reunions, playing cards, bingo, going to Wendover, cooking, and spending time with her family. Her door was always open and once you entered it, you felt like family.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory one sister, Rosemary Green, Chicago, IL; children, Dunnese Scott-Sanders, Beverley (James) Hester, Lonnie (Jeanette) Steward, Curtis (Cassandra) Jones, Carolina (Gregory) Weatherspoon; Larry (Karen) Steward, Michael Steward, and Kelvin (Lora) Steward; 30 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Awaiting her arrival are her parents; brother Ernst; sisters Anna Lee Banks and Olivia Perkins; children Colleen, Erick, and Melvin Steward; and son-in-law O.D. Sanders.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at South Davis Home Health and Hospice, and to Gigi for her continual love and care over the years. Also, to Shaun Myers and the staff at Myers Ogden Mortuary.
Going Home Celebration will be Wednesday, June 22, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at 2nd Baptist Church, 227 27th Street, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be Tuesday, June 21, 2022, 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
