Elaine Hipwell Stauffer has gone to the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband Darrell.

Elaine was born in Ogden on July 23, 1931 to Ellis A. Hipwell and Mary Staker Hipwell. She had two older brothers (Dee and Grant) and two younger sisters (Cleone and Carol). She graduated from Weber High School where she received many awards for her sewing skills and played clarinet in the band.

In 1947 she met Darrell Wayne Stauffer on a blind date. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1949. The had three daughters; Ann (Dan) Moulton, Darlene (Mike) Monson and Paula (John) Kennedy. Darrell and Elaine loved to take their family camping and fishing, and supported their children in their endeavors in school, music, sports and daily life. Elaine loved being a mother, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of fifteen. Darrell passed away on the 24th of July in 1995.

Elaine worked at the Bank of Utah for many years. After retiring she served as a volunteer at McKay-Dee Hospital for thirty-three years. She spent over 13,000 hours in service there, serving as president of the volunteers twice. She loved working in the recovery room, the main desk and the valet desk.

She loved the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in Primary, Relief Society and as Young Women’s president and received her Golden Gleaner award as a young woman. One of her favorite callings was in the Special Needs Primary, where she served for twenty years. She joined the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in 1950 and remained an active member and hosted many meetings.

Elaine loved to travel. She was able to travel to the Philippines, China, Mexico, Hawaii and many places in the United States. She enjoyed aerobic swimming and winning at Hand and Foot. In 2013 she moved to “The Gardens” assisted living where she made many friends and loved playing bingo and doing crafts.

With enormous gratitude, Elaine’s family would like to thank Alison, Les, and the many caring staff members at The Gardens Assisted Living who treated Mom with love and respect. The family is also extremely grateful to Sean, Lola, Jamie and Dee from Bristol Hospice.
