Eleanore Darcey Obituary

Eleanore Arlene Rhodes Darcey

July 22nd, 1937 – September 21st, 2022

Born in Hamilton, Washington, she grew up in Concrete, Washington. She graduated from Concrete High School and went to work in Seattle, Washington shortly afterward. She lost her father, John Ross Rhodes, while attending high school.

Following high school, she went to work in Seattle, Washington, where she met the love of her life, John Paul Darcey. They married on the 15th of November, 1957. John, who was stationed on Whidbey Island, Washington, with the U.S. Navy, was soon transferred to Pensacola, Florida.

Her first son, David John, was born enroute to Florida, in Wanship, Utah. Within a few years the Navy transferred them across the ocean, to Subic Bay, Philippine Islands, where her second son, James Craig, was born. While there, she studied dressmaking and pattern making, earning recognition for her skill. A few more years, and a few more moves with the Navy, brought the family to Fallon, Nevada, where her daughter, Diana Cynthia, was born.

Several more years and moves later, John retired from the service to bring the family to Sunset, Utah. Eleanore found work with Singer corporation, putting her skill to work for them. When John purchased an appliance repair service, she helped him operate it for several years, eventually retiring from it after his death. She spent the later years devoted to quilt making and making hats for newborns, to donate to the hospital.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and grandson Malachi Darcey.

She is survived by her brother Richard (Elaine), sister Julia (Russ), three children, David (Babette), James (Molly), and DD (Redwing), seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one cat.

Memorial presentation will be held at Sunset LDS 4th ward building, 220 W. 975 N. Sunset, UT. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
