Our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Elmer Lewis Byrum of Layton, passed away suddenly following a heart attack on June 29, 2018. Elmer was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on June 22, 1958; the son of William Dean Byrum and Carolee Ann Blunt Byrum. Elmer grew up in Texas, Michigan, and Utah; he has resided in Utah since 1976. March 27, 1998, he married Mary Rose Lopez; she preceded him in death in 2011.

Elmer was a diehard cowboys fan, a jokester, and he enjoyed camping, fishing and loved being outdoors. He was always a loving and generous soul, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He loved working with his hands and wood carving, and he made many walking sticks.

He was loved by many, especially his nephews, Steven Hildebrandt, Brian, Jon and Danny Warren.

Elmer is survived by his father, William Dean Byrum; brother, Chris Byrum; sisters, LaDena Warren and Gaylene (Blake) Johnson. Also, surviving are his step children, Mandy Dimick, Michael Freestone, Wendy Meibos, and Shawn Checkits. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; mother, Carolee; and brother, Art.

The family would like to express appreciation to Sam Ellrich and Carol Saichi for their kindness and support toward our brother and son these last couple months during his illness.

Memorial Services will be held July 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
