Frances Prevedel Obituary

Frances Geraldine Prevedel

April 21,1930 - May 12, 2023

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Matriarch of our family, Frances Geraldine Prevedel, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023. She was born April 21, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to John Dale Russell and Frances Patterson Russell. She was the youngest of seven children being raised in Hooper, Utah.

Known throughout her life as Geraldine (Gerrie) she attended school at Hooper Elementary graduating from Weber High School Class of 1948. She formed many life-long friendships at Weber High and enjoyed their yearly class reunions until 2020. She attended Weber College receiving a two-year associate's degree. She married Dennie D. Prevedel on September 19, 1952 and they had 3 children. Dennie preceded her in death on October 3, 2017. For the past 50+ years she has worked as a building manager for the Kiesel Building and in 1989 went to work as the manager of the Old Ogden Post Office Building retiring at the age of 92 on July 31, 2022. On September 1, 2022 the owners formally named the lobby of the building The Geraldine Prevedel Lobby, which was a great honor to her and her family.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she faithfully served in many different organizations throughout her life. Her favorite calling was serving in the Stake Special Needs Program. She formed many lasting friendships with the participants in Special Needs who affectionately called her Grandma Gerrie. She wrote and produced road shows involving many ward members of all ages.

She was an excellent cook, preparing countless meals for her family, extended family and neighbors. She made hand-dipped chocolates always striving to perfect her recipes. She enjoyed traveling with Dennie to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. She took her grandchildren on numerous trips during their younger years. She loved attending the theater with her daughter and her home was filled with music. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love and service to so many.

Gerrie is survived by her three children Scott (Kathy), Karen (Marino) and Wayne (Julie).

Five grandchildren Shellie (Scott) George, Colt (Carrie) Prevedel, Marque (Travis) Clifton, Dustin (Lacie) Prevedel, Yates (Michele) Prevedel and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and three sisters, along with their spouses. She was the last living member of her Russell Family.
