Francis Gilbert Widdison

HOOPER - Francis Gilbert Widdison passed away May 15, 2006 of causes incident to age.

He was born May 3, 1918 in Hooper, UT to Willard and Amanda Johnson Widdison.

He graduated from Weber High School in 1936 and served in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. He married Phyllis Perry of Willard in 1943. She died in 1946. On June 8, 1948 he married Jewel Rigby Lewis. “Tyke” & Jewel spent 50 delightful years together. Jewel died July 20, 1998. Francis retired from Hill AFB after 38 years.

Francis was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as Young Men’s president, High Priest group leader, in the bishopric, and in the branch presidency at the Heritage Care Center in Roy. He and Jewel served at the Ogden Temple Visitors Center. He was President of the PTA at Sandridge and Wahlquist Jr. High Schools.

Francis found great joy in serving others. Each Memorial Day he assisted in placing flags on the graves of veterans. He sincerely loved and cared about people.

He enjoyed the daily newspaper, visits with friends, planning parties, and Sunday drives. He also loved to garden and took great pleasure in sharing the corn and tomatoes he raised.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Bessie Widdison, Mildred Folkman, Viola Folkman, Flora Neibaur, and Jennie Stoddard, and a granddaughter, Penney Lewis.

He is survived by his children Max R. Lewis, Ogden, Perry (Bonnie) Widdison, South Jordan, Jeryl Ann (Lyle) Deppe, Taylorsville, Wayne (Andrea) Widdison, Hooper, Ina (Gordon) James, West Weber, and Francie, Ogden and by his brothers Melvin (Armina) Widdison and Merrill (Beth) Widdison, Hooper, Marlene (Darrell) Doxey, Ogden and a foster daughter Harriet (Edison) Charley of Newcomb, NM. His posterity includes 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A special thanks to the wonderful staffs of Crestwood Care Center and Vistacare Hospice for their loving care and friendship.

Friends may call at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W., Roy on Thursday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m. in the Hooper 3rd Ward Chapel, 5601 S. 6100 W., Hooper, UT. Viewing at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment is in the Willard Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. where Military Honors will be accorded by the combined VFW Honor Guard.
