Our beloved and honored family patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Frank Edward Newman, Jr., was called home on September 26, 2022, 6 days before his 100th birthday, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Frank was born in Ogden, UT, on October 2, 1922, to Lucile Wright Newman and Frank Edward Newman. He attended Polk School and was in the first graduating class of the beautiful new Ogden High School in 1940. After 1 year at Weber College, he joined the Naval Air Corps where he trained as a pilot for 3 years and reached Pearl Harbor when the war ended in August of 1945, completely skilled at flying fighter planes from an aircraft carrier at night.
Returning home, he was called on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northern States Mission, where he served for 2 years. Then, while continuing his education at the University of Utah, he met Kathleen Taylor, and they were married in the Cardston, Alberta Temple in March of 1951. After his graduation with a degree in business management, they moved back to his home in Ogden where he worked until his retirement. In the pleasant golfing days of his retirement, he had the companionship of many special friends.
Frank and Kathleen were blessed with 4 fine children, Linda, Margaret, Taylor, and Sylvia. Later 21 grandchildren filled their lives, and when he left us there were more than 60 great-grandchildren, all so welcomed and loved. The children and grandchildren all knew that they would have a wonderful time with grandpa doing all kinds of fun things. He liked nothing better than to get his grandsons or daughters on the golf course.
Frank had a solid testimony and was always a faithful member and worker in the LDS church, serving as scoutmaster, YM president, bishop’s counselor, home teacher, high priest group leader, and other callings wherever needed. He and Kathleen served a mission to New Zealand, which included 9 months in the Cook Islands, and later served a service mission in the Monroe Branch. They also enjoyed several years of service in the original Ogden Temple.
Frank is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children Linda (Kent) Mecham, Margaret (Michael) Tribe, Taylor (Nila) Newman, and Sylvia Newman (Robert Fudge); and his sister, Mary Pyper. He was preceded in death by his brother, Parley, and his sister, Analu.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylor Canyon Ward, 1643 26th St., Ogden, UT. The family will meet friends prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd., Ogden, UT.
