Gail N. Ruddell
1939 - 2011

Ogden – Our most beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend passed away Friday, June 17th at McKay – Dee Hospital at the age of 71.

He was born in Brigham City to Clair and Gladys Jenkins Ruddell September 23, 1939. He was the "baby" of 13 siblings.

Gail was a Christian and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

He was among the first hired at Thiokol Chemical Corporation (Badge #1082). He retired from Thiokol and ATK after 40years of service. He had the greatest respect for his crews. He won many awards.

Gail was an exceptional man. While he appeared gruff at times he loved deeply. His work ethic was second to none.

On February 18, 1961 he married Mary Carson in Pocatello, Idaho. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past February.

Gail was diagnosed with cancer 2 years and 5 months ago. He fought a tremendous fight to reach our 50th anniversary and was still fighting it when he fell at home on Friday and succumbed to his injuries.

You could never meet a more honest, straight forward man. He was very much respected for that by those who knew him.

He served in the United States Army in Korea. He also served in the Army Reserves and National Guard. He loved his country and served with pride.

Gail loved his boat and enjoyed dropping it in any "pond" he could find that would accept its 26 foot size. It was his heaven on earth. We had many great times at Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge with our boating friends.

He was a die-hard fan of NCIS and watched every new or repeat episode he could find. He loved watching football during the season and enjoyed harassing his best friend Satch when his team won over Satch's.

When his grandsons were growing up he never once missed a football, basketball or baseball game of theirs.

His greatest heartbreak was losing his precious daughter, Wendy Golding, in a 1995 car wreck.

This good and decent man is survived lovingly by his wife, Mary (Mugs); his son, Steve (Misty) Ruddell; his grandchildren, John III (Rachel) Golding, Malcolm Golding, Cameron Golding and Danica Ruddell; his great-granddaughter McKaylyn. He will sorely missed by his grand puppy (100 lb. Chocolate Lab, Kingster, who resides with us). He delighted Gail with his antics and often slept with him. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Dodie Bosley, CA, Louise Wright, St. George, Harry (Barbara) Ruddell of OR, Ralph (Maxine) Ruddell of Brigham City, Norrine (Bud) Williams of AZ. He was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Gail is now united with his wonderful parents; precious daughter, Wendy; his siblings, Clayton and Fanchea Ruddell, Lewis and Kathleen Ruddell, Crawford Ruddell, Helen Andreasen, Benedine Ruddell and infant twins that died shortly after birth.

Services will be held as Gail directed. Visitation and viewing on Wednesday, June 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. It was his wish to be cremated. We will have a graveside services at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd., on Friday, June 24th at 1 p.m. where military honors will be accorded. He will be buried next to our Wendy.

We wish to thank McKay – Dee hospital and paramedics who responded to our call. The last year was hard for Gail and we wish to thank and acknowledge Heritage Rehab Center for their wonderful love and care when he was recovering from bacterial pneumonia. A special thank you to Dr. Vincent Hansen and his incredible staff. He loved you all.
