Gary Morgan Obituary

After a valiant 8 year battle, Gary Brent Morgan was finally welcomed home by his loving Heavenly Father, on Monday, February 17, 2020 surrounded by loved ones on both sides of the veil. Gary was born in Salt Lake City Utah on February 26, 1949 to Ernest C. and Betty Jane (Snyder) Morgan. Gary was the oldest of 6 children. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from South High in 1968 and immediately left to serve as an LDS missionary in the Alberta, Saskatchewan/Canada Calgary mission.

His many work experiences took him to LDS Hospital, American Greetings, Mr. Mac and various sales positions, most recently at Trane SLC. What he enjoyed most about working were the relationships he made with many people. His work took him to Utah and before that Idaho. While living in Idaho Gary was wisely advised to go to Utah to find a wife. He was already a loving father to Grant, Charlene, Brent, Marianne and Jacob.

He went to Utah and met his forever Valentine, Carolyn Goodwin in June; but had to take his son on a Snake River trip, so he couldn’t arrange a date until he tempted her with tickets to the event she wanted to attend in August. They were married 3 months later in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple November 30, 1990. Overnight he became the father to 5 more children: Justin, Melanie, Mary Anne, Kurt and Michael Brady. To complete this amazing group they added two more children Ryan and Matthew. For the next thirty years this family learned to love and work together and create a home of unity, harmony and love.

Gary enjoyed serving his fellowman and his Heavenly Father in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; serving in scouting, Bishoprics, High Councils and other auxiliaries.  Gary was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fly fishing, boating, camping, hunting, snowmobiling and feeling close to His Creator in the mountains. What he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his wife and children and playing with his 35 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Gary was a wonderful example of hard work, service, humility, integrity, faithful obedience and showed us what it means to endure well. His twinkling blue eyes and engaging smile endeared him to many. His powerful testimony of His Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ, and the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the prophet Joseph Smith were inspiring to many.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law; and son, Jacob.

Our family wishes to express their thanks to family, friends and neighbors for their prayers, encouraging words and loving thoughtfulness; and to all the empathetic, caring friends we made at Huntsman over the last several years.
