Obituary

Girard H. “Jerry” Rapp, 93, passed away during the early evening hours on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, with his wife Gwendolyn by his side at the Beehive Homes of St. George in Washington, UT.

Born in Reading, PA, on October 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Winfield Scott and Edith Dorothy Rapp. He lived there throughout his childhood years until he joined the Army directly after graduating high school and served honorably until his discharge as a Sergeant from active duty. After various adventures he returned to Pennsylvania and attended Pennsylvania State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering on June 9, 1956.

Upon receiving his degree Jerry then pursued a full career as an “Aero” and worked as an engineer in California for Hughes Aircraft during the late 1950’s, then moved to Massachusetts where he worked at Raytheon during late 1960’s until about 1976.   From there he moved his family to Arizona and eventually found his way to Utah, where he settled in quite nicely in Brigham City working with Morton Thiokol until his retirement.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Jerry was active with civic charitable duties as well. For instance, with the church he was involved with the cub scouts, and civically - he was also involved with the Brigham City’s Meals-On-Wheels program.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Gwendolyn R. Rapp, is his sister Marlene (Marlene E., wife of Ronald R. Wright).  Surviving children are Jeri Callahan, Jeffrey Rapp, Bryan Rapp, Brenda Sabo, Stephen Templin, Andrew Templin, Rebecca Templin, and Sabrina Templin. Additionally, there are 18 surviving grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
