Jacqueline Godding Obituary

Jacqueline “Jackie” Godding passed away peacefully January 6, 2022. Jackie was born February 7, 1946 in Kanab, Utah the daughter of Robert Lauren Godding and Betty Rebecca Mace. Jackie grew up in Sylmar, California having a wonderful childhood with her twin sister Joanne and brother Robert (Bobby).

After graduating from Sylmar High School, she worked as a CNA at General Hospital before moving to Ogden, Utah where she settled at St Benedicts Manor over 35 years ago.

Jackie worked several jobs in the Ogden area including Your Valet Cleaners, Deseret Industries and Headstart. She volunteered at elementary schools and the library as part of the Foster Grandparents program. She made many friends at The Manor and had a special group of friends that became a second family to her. Of course, Jackie was the ringleader and was known by the group as “Mother Godding.”  It was a Sunday ritual to have dinner together, study the scriptures, and end the day with prayer.

Jackie enjoyed doing genealogy work to uncover the history of her family, and she loved sharing this information with her sister. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a testimony of the gospel and loved going to the temple when she was able. She was kind, funny, fiercely independent, stubborn, and very loyal to everyone in her life. She suffered a lifetime of physical problems, but she never let them deter her from living a full life. A bag of M&M peanuts would make her smile, especially if she could have them with a Diet Coke!

Jackie is survived by her twin sister Joanne Garner of San Diego, California, two nephews, Eric Garner and Chad Garner, and was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Roy Godding and brother-in-law Hal Garner.

She was loved by everyone who knew her, and she will be missed so much.

A special thanks to Dr Jeffrey Call and his very competent and caring staff for their many years of compassionate care, and to Heritage Park Care Center and Atlas Homecare and Hospice, especially Shannon and Sydney.

Funeral services will be held Thursday January 13 at 11:00 am at the Waterfall Canyon Ward, 3254 Polk Ave in Ogden. A viewing will be held Thursday from 10:00 -10:45 prior to the service. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
