Obituary

James Edward (Jim) Dixon
January 9, 1941- November 1, 2018

Our cherished and loved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully after battling cancer, on Thursday evening, November 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Lincoln county, Mississippi to Versie Dixon and R.E.(Reese) Sanders on January 9, 1941. He was the fourth of seven children born to this union. After the death of his father in 1948, his mother married Earnest Lee and the family moved to Utah in 1953. He has been a resident of Layton for the remainder of his life, except for the two years spent on active duty in the Army.

Jim attended schools in Mississippi and Utah, graduating from Davis High School in 1960. He attended Weber College for several years after his marriage.

He married Roberta Louise Graham in a ceremony held in her parent's home on January 13, 1968. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this past January, during those years they shared many happy memories of family reunions, trips, with family and friends, several cruises and following the sports and activities of their children. They enjoyed gardening and yard work together.

Jim worked at Hill Air Force Base for many years, earning many service awards and commendations. His proudest moment was successfully completing the Fitness and Recreational Supervisor Course in 1991 and becoming the manager over the Officers' Club, the Daycare Center and other services.

Jim for twenty-two years took a group of golfers to Mesquite, Nevada for three days of golf fun. Many, very dear and fond friendships have been formed from these trips. Jim and Roberta say "Thanks, for the love you have shown us in our difficult final days."

Jim had a strong faith and belief in Jesus. He was active in the New Zion Baptist Church for over fifty years. He served in many areas and his last were as leader of the Men's chorus and as choir director, Financial Trustee and an active member until his last illness. Jim had a strong love and devotion for family and for people in general with whom he interacted.

He is survived by his wife Roberta, children : Denise (John) Lake, Roderick (Rod) and friend, and Leon (Tiffany); and six grandchildren, 2 girls and 4 boys. Siblings: Dorothy McWee, Lennell (Martin) Avery, J.L. Dixon, S.L. (Barbara) Dixon, Maryann Dixon, Versie Dixon Jr., Yvonne (Homer) James, Earnest Lee Jr., Robert Lee, Mark Lee, a stepsister Semjai Riley; two sister-in-laws: Mary (Daniel) Shields and Gloria Jean Brown. He also is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step father; sister, Thelma Lee Holston; brother, Michael Lee and sister- in-law Bobbie Dixon; his Graham in-laws, Harley and Mary Graham; brother-in-laws, Harley and Phillip.
