John Phillip (Phil) Crook, of Layton, Utah, age 65, was called home November 2, 2023, after suffering complications from an infection. Phillip was born January 30, 1958, in Richfield, Utah. He was the third of four children born to Kay Madsen and LaRue Johnson Crook.
The family moved frequently around Utah, Idaho, and Washington, while Phillip was growing up. They eventually settled in Boise, Idaho, where he attended West Junior High and Borah High School. He was an exceptional student and loved playing the trombone in the high school marching band.
Phillip served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sendai, Japan. He remained a faithful member throughout his life and served in various callings, including bishopric counselor, ward clerk and Primary pianist.
A BYU graduate with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Phillip worked for Boeing in the Seattle area. He later worked at Hill Air Force Base, where he was employed at the time of his passing. He loved music and was a loyal BYU sports fan.
Phillip is survived by his parents: Kay and LaRue Crook; siblings: David, Carolyn Ferguson (Phil), and Kevin (Denise); six nieces and nephews, and twelve grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Sun Hills Ward, 3290 North 1050 East, Layton, Utah, on Saturday, November 11, 2023. A viewing will be held from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.

The family expresses profound gratitude to Phillip’s wonderful neighbors and friends, and the dedicated workers at the Holy Cross Hospital-Davis and the U of U neuro and medical critical care units.
