It is with great sadness that the family of Johnny Lewis Hess announces his passing on January 26th, 2024, from a rare heart condition. Johnny was born December 31, 1965, in Ogden Utah. Ogden has always been home for John. It’s where most of his family have lived and John always wanted to stay close to family.
John was married to Jamie Amidan from 1986-1994. They had two boys Casey and Nichalos Hess. John was devoted to his family, especially his grandkids. He loved his role as being grandpa to CayLeigh, Kamin, and Kairi Lynn.
John loved cars and for many years he worked as a service writer in different auto shops around Ogden.
His favorite job was at Roads to Independence, where he assisted people with disabilities in obtaining assistive technology and mobility devices that would allow them to live as independently as possible. He loved this job because he loved helping people. He dedicated so much time to this organization. In addition to the hours he worked, John spent a lot of time volunteering at Roads to Independence. During his time there, the staff was like an extended family to John. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
John loved to go to swap meets, pawn shops, and yard sales on Saturday mornings. The yard sales in Ogden will see a significant decrease in sales now that John will no longer be attending. He had an eye for a good deal and John was always mindful of others when he was out thrifting. He frequently found and gifted items he knew family members and friends would enjoy.
John was a loyal fan of the Pittsburg Steelers football team and enjoyed watching NASCAR races every Sunday. He was close with all his brothers and enjoyed many afternoons watching football or NASCAR or just sitting outside enjoying a summer evening with them.
John was a quiet, kindhearted, and thoughtful person who loved a good joke.
John is survived by his two sons, Casey (Aja) Hess and Nichalos (Sandy) Hess, his siblings, David (Terry), Paul, Nick (Kelie), Jeff (Angelina), Larry Hamblin, and Angela (Greg) Shaw. Additionally, John is survived by his dear cousin Lainie Hegland whom he had a close friendship, and his best friend Dan Kyte, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Jimmy Hamblin, and his grandmother, Vera Hiatt.
John’s kindness and smile made an impact on everyone he encountered. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
“Some people come into our lives and leave footprints in our hearts and minds, and we are never the same again”.
