Joseph Geherlein III Obituary

Joseph John Gehrlein III

September 28th, 1946 – September 22nd, 2022

A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands now at rest, God has broken our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best. Our Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and most treasured legacy was called home on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022. He reached the golden gates of heaven with a life well lived behind him, leaving pieces of his living wisdom in those still earth side.

John is survived by his three adult children, Debbie (Dave) Elmer, Sandy UT; Joseph John IV (Collette) Gehrlein, Eden, UT; and Angie (Troy) Day, Willard, UT. He is also survived by his little sister Sara (Glen) Eames, and two Nephews. John has 9 Grandchildren, and 15 Great-Grandchildren whom he loved immensely, he carried a token of love for each in his heart, oh how his heart must have been full!

John attended high school and graduated in the class of 1964. He later in life was the leader of the Uinta Flaming “U” Junior Posse. Under his leadership and guidance, this elite group of individuals participated in many rodeos and parades, earning them multiple trophies and ribbons and creating lifelong friendships and memories. A hardworking man is one of the many traits he carried; John had fulfilled a career at JetWay and then continued working into his final years. He enjoyed working as a crossing guard for Roy City and often told stories of the “little ones” he kept safe, all of these stories were told with a laugh and smile on his face.

History was always something John had a love for, his stories and wisdom will always be unmatched. Those who listened to John were enriched with education, passion, and love for times past. He was a true craftsman; he could build or fix anything. He was an avid sportsman; hunting, fishing, and camping were always at the top of his list. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren these life skills among his favorite spots in the mountains. This is where some of the best memories were created with his family, it truly was the place he was at peace. With his dogs by his side, the elk bugling, and a cold one in his hand, his final resting place will be just where he would have wanted it, Green Rock at Monroe Mountain.

God’s Garden

God looked around his garden and he found an empty place. And then he looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you, and lifted you to rest. God’s Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids, and whispered “Peace be Thine”. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
