Juanita Lee Klump Thompson, 92, of North Ogden, died Sunday, May 27, 2018 at McKay-Dee Hospital of pneumonia.
Lee was born June 27, 1925 in Antioch, Kentucky to Raymond Armand and Ida Elizabeth Sharp Klump. She has an older brother, Clarence.
She married Bill Burgess in 1941. They became parents to a daughter, Joyce Lee, and a son, Billy Ray. They were divorced.
She married Charles Duane Thompson April 19, 1952, at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. “Tom” adopted Joyce and Billy. They later added a daughter, Christie, to the family.
Lee worked as a portrait photographer in the late 1940s, taking photos of guests and celebrities in the Big Band dance spots and restaurants of the Terrace Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. When the Terrace Plaza opened, it was one of the most heralded hotels in the world. Lee was among the first employees.
Lee joined the Women’s Army Corps where she continued her career as a photographer. She met her husband, “Tom,” on the Army Post in Maryland. While supporting her husband’s military career, she learned cosmetology and worked as a hairdresser sometimes. After the children were grown, she worked at Hill Air Force Base.
Lee made friends wherever they were stationed and enjoyed the diverse assignments in Europe and the United States. After their military service, they made their home in either Kentucky or Utah. In 60 years of marriage, she came to love Tom’s hometown of Ogden as her own.
Lee is survived by her children: Joyce Vann, of Bellevue, Kentucky; Bill (Jeannine) Thompson, of San Tan Valley, Arizona; and Christie (Rob) Moore, of North Ogden. Seven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive Lee. Her sweetheart, her parents, her brother and his wife, Mary, preceded her in death. Her granddaughter, Rebecca Vann, also preceded her in death.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 27, at 11:00 AM at Myers Mortuary in Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary during a viewing Tuesday evening, June 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. They may also call prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 AM.
The family would like to thank several close friends and caregivers who helped with Mom’s care the last few years: Sandy Lindsay, a close family friend; Barbara Stowell from Right at Home; and Tawnia Martin from That’s My House. She loved spending time with each friend and the family feels honored by such kindness.
