With great sadness we announce the passing of Karen Shaw Blakely, age 86, on December 15, 2021. She passed away peacefully in Hawaii with family by her side. Karen was born November 24, 1935 in Pleasant View, Utah to John Riley Shaw and Josephine Cottom Shaw. She was the second youngest of ten loved children.
During the Great Depression the family moved to Riverbank, California, where Karen grew up on the family farm. She attended Oakdale High School. She worked in insurance until her retirement from Arthur J. Gallagher in 1999.
An angel on earth, Karen was an exceptionally kind, loving, giving person and a
friend to all. She spent her precious time enjoying her family, friends, nature, golfing and being a part of the LDS community. Karen was thrilled to travel the world, experiencing different cultures and cuisines. She was a lover of ice cream and loved being the first to give a bite to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved crime shows and enjoyed watching Netflix in her later years. She also had a great sense of humor and was always quick to laugh.
She was predeceased by her parents, eight of her siblings, first husband Keith Thomas, her second husband Bruce Blakely and son in law Ronald Ricci. She is survived by her sister Chryl Markworth, daughters Diane Ricci, Charlotte Mossgrove and partner Robert Eggebrotten, and son David Thomas. Grandchildren Nicole Ricci Spooner and husband Thomas Spooner, Elise Ricci, Michael Ricci and fiancé Niclole Agne, Matthew Ricci, Robert Stumpf, Lucas Stumpf and wife Davida Stumpf, Rachel Bedell and husband Harrison Bedell. Arlen Mossgrove and partner Tori Woodman, Madison Thomas and Riley Thomas, Step granddaughter Tiannah Holcomb and husband Alex Halcomb. Great grandchildren Matthew Stumpf, Ryan Stumpf, Cici Spooner, Carlin Spooner, Campbell McAuliffe, Lily McAuliffe, Maisie Stumpf and Dax Holcomb. She is also survived by extended family and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 pm on January 29, 2022 at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah. Karen's service will be live streamed the day of the service and will remain on her obituary page indefinitely.
An Ice Cream Social will follow the service from 3 to 6 p.m.
