Kent Oyler Obituary

In 1966 I graduated from Weber High then attended Weber State to avoid the draft. This strategy of draft avoidance was unsuccessful; in January 1969 I was drafted into the Army and by July 1969 I was sent to Vietnam.

I spent one year as infantry with the 25th Division. I left Vietnam in July 1970 with 4 Bronze Stars - 2 with valor, 4 accommodation medals, and 6 air medals for out helicopter assaults. I did not get a Purple Heart - lucky I guess.

I graduated from Weber in 1976 with a degree in Sociology.  I never found a job that needed my degree, but instead followed my brother Wayne into the Kirby sales business. Yolanda and I opened a very successful retail store.

Since 2008 I have sold Kirby Parts in an E-bay store. My feedback has over 25,000 100% positive reviews. We kept it that way by following Yolanda’s rule: Don’t procrastinate. Then I followed the advice I gave my Children: Obey the little rules. You might even get by breaking a big rule if you obey the little rules.

I’m survived by my wife of 43 years, Yolanda. We built a life with one another, created an amazing family together, and she was alongside me throughout the entire life’s journey – including right up to the end.

We had two children Kent John Oyler and Dale James Oyler. Prior to Yolanda I was married to Kathy Fowers. We had a daughter, Mindy Baker, and stepdaughter Angee Elliot. I have 7 grandchildren, which I will miss greatly.

My parents and three brothers Wayne, Russell, and Robert, all preceded me in death along with grandson Nickolas Weber. Hopefully they will have a welcome party for me.

Surviving me are siblings Dennis and Gloria Oyler, Sally and Russell Pincombe, Diana and Corwin Smith. My wife Yolanda, my children and their spouses Mindy (Robert) Baker, Kent (Emily) Oyler, Dale (Linsey) Oyler, and grandchildren Alora, Andrew, Nathan, Eden, Michael, Graysen, Mia.
