Monty was born Aug. 9, 1935, the 2nd son of Orville and Leila Stanger Holmes. The family lived in Liberty, Utah when he was born then shortly moved to Marriott where Monty grew up. He attended Weber County schools and graduated from Weber High School in 1953. He attended Weber College where he took classes in auto mechanics

He married LaRae Neville in 1954. They had three sons, Craig, Kevin and Kerry. They later divorced. He married the second love of his life, Patricia Robin Satterlee, April 16, 1979.

Monty enjoyed sports, automobiles and nature. He loved racing anything that had a motor in it. He enjoyed going fishing with his Grandpa Stanger (and Dr. Wallace Budge). He especially enjoyed baseball. He played for Weber High and for the Weber County Farm Bureau League. He then began coaching, recruiting players from the high school teams and took them to a state championship. He also coached his sons little league teams.

He learned to work hard along side of his dad trucking hay (he could drive the big truck and shift gears at a young age). He worked for Weber County Mosquito Abatement and managed Super Sonic Car Wash. He enjoyed the auto industry and worked as a service manager for Ford and Chrysler. He also owned a Chevron service station in Marriott.

In 1983 he and Pat moved to St. Maries, Idaho supposedly to retire. They loved their little spot of seclusion on top of the mountain but retire they did not. They started working at Young Living Herb Farm and managed it for many years. They made many improvements and turned it into a successful operation. They also travelled the Northwest showing their prized Rottweiler dogs, taking many awards.

Monty, with the love and encouragement of his wife, fought with courage and perseverance the diagnosis and progress of ALS. He kept a positive attitude and never gave up. He was determined to live life to its fullest and continued to pursue his goals. Due to his health and a desire to be closer to family, they moved to Plain City in 2003. Monty felt family was important. He loved his family and was thankful for them. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Monty is survived by his wife, Patricia; 3 sons, Craig LaMont (Janyc), Kevin David (Kay) and Kerry Douglas (Audrey); 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 3 brothers, Sherman (Carolyn), Ronald (Dixie) and Reed (Brenda) and 2 sisters, Marilyn (Duane) Walters and Lois (Larry) Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held on Monday, April 25th from 6 – 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.

A special thanks to Jo, Naomi (Nikkole) and her husband Braidon.
