LaRee Elmer Shurtliff, 98, passed away on February 10, 2015. The eldest of
three children, she was born on April 9, 1916, to Dowayne Neor Jessop and Pearl
Amelia James in Wilson. She married George Wilford Elmer on Nov. 2, 1938, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Logan Temple. He died January 1985. She later married Russell Shurtliff in Ogden on Oct. 12, 1991; he died in October 1999.

She worked for the Utah State Center for the Blind, as a driver for Lynn Cruser for more than 20 years until she retired.

She did handiwork with embroidery and fine thread crochet providing heirloom pillowcases and table/dresser linens for her children and grandchildren.

For many years she was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was chosen and served as the DUP Ogden Pioneer Days queen in July 2011. She was proud of her pioneer heritage.

She faithfully served in the Ogden LDS Temple of 18 years until it closed for
renovation; Russell served with her until his death. She served in various callings and was a faithful visiting teacher for her entire adult life. She served two proselyting missions; Birmingham, Alabama with her husband, George, and in Tempe, Arizona after his death.

She has 38 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren and displayed many photos of them in her home.

She is survived by her eight children; Georgia Nielsen (Hans Otto, deceased) of
Frederica, Denmark, Wendell Elmer (Dianne) of Roy, Joseph Elmer (Kathy) of
Marriott-Slaterville, Marlene Grua (Roger) of Ogden, Raylene Bush (Robert) of
Pleasant Grove, Barbara Phipps (Randy), Donald Elmer (Judi), James Elmer all of Marriott- Slaterville and a stepson Daniel Shurtliff of Layton. She is also survived by her brother Dennis Jessop (Donna) of Rupert, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dowayne Delmont Jessop, an infant son, Douglas; 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

The family expresses appreciation to the care givers at Hospice Care of Northern Utah.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Marriott-Slaterville First Ward, 250 North 1500 West. A viewing will held on Sunday, February 15 from 6 to 8 pm at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and prior to services from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the church.

Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 3:30 pm.

LaRee loved flowers and contributed to numerous charitable organizations. Any choice you make would please her.
