Lena Karen Ashment, born on October 1, 1940, in Brigham City, Utah, passed away on November 3, 2023. She was a resident of North Ogden, Utah at the time of her passing.
Karen spent her life dedicated to service, both professionally and personally. Employed by the IRS, she found fulfillment in her work in various positions in the Examination Branch. She also served as the President of the Mount Ogden Chapter for the American Business Women Association. Karen's compassionate nature truly shone in her personal life.
She married her beloved husband, Russell Tal Ashment, on April 20, 1963, in Elko, Nevada. Their union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1991.
Karen was an avid hobbyist with varied interests including quilting, crocheting, and maintaining a beautiful rose garden. She found joy in cooking for others, and many have enjoyed her homemade chocolates. She loved traveling abroad and often spoke fondly of her trips to Israel, Peru, London, and Egypt. She also had a deep appreciation for the fine arts, attending performances at the Browning Theatre that included plays, ballets, and symphonies. Karen's own musical talents were evident in her piano playing, and she often filled her home with melodious music.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Karen held numerous positions, including Young Women's President, Primary President, and counselor in the Relief Society Presidency. She and her husband also served a mission at the Ogden Employment Center.
Karen is survived by her husband, Russell Tal Ashment, and their children: Michael Ashment (Terri), Jolene Paul (Andrew), and Bryan Ashment. She is also survived by her brother, Dan Cutler (Cathy), her sister, Betty Bate (Bill), seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents: Vern and Elizabeth Cutler, and her brothers Paul and Ron Cutler.
She leaves behind a legacy of caring and giving, which was evident in every aspect of her life. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Staff at George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home for their care during Karen's time with them. They would also like to extend their appreciation to the North Ogden 13th Ward for their support and service to their family throughout the years.
