Leona Baldwin Obituary

Leona Mae Bates Baldwin, 86, passed away January 24, 2023 ( 18 days shy of her 87th birthday) in her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born February 11, 1936 in Ucon, ID to David Westley Bates and Ethel Mary Seipert.

Leona attended Grant Union High School in Sacramento, CA.  She married Ralph Kenneth Baldwin on February 10, 1953 in the St. George Utah Temple. They shared 69 years 11 months and 17 happy days together.

Leona is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in many church callings where she dedicated her time, talents and happy spirit in service of the Lord.  One of her last callings was her 3rd time serving as Relief Society President at the age of 77. Among her favorite callings, which were filled with her husband, Ken, were a full time mission in Pennsylvania and 10 1/2 years as a temple worker in the Ogden temple, and endless service as missionaries throughout their lives. She emulated the Savior in her walk through life.

She was involved in Utah Daughters of Pioneers, PTA, Served as a Election Judge for many years, and as a Voting Registration Agent.  Her most favorite hobby was to be a loving wife and devoted mother to her 8 children, then 34 grandchildren, 112 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.  She made each one of us feel that we were the most important person in the world.  She never judged, but only loved everyone. She was a naturally happy and cheerful person who could be found whistling or singing all day long.

We love our Dad and extend a special thank you to him for his endless patience, love and service to our Mom as she suffered with memory loss.

Leona is survived by her husband Ken, children: Dwight (Cindy) Baldwin, Ross (Barbara) Baldwin, Cary (Kenneth) Allred, Laura (Layne) McFarland, Kirk (Lindy) Baldwin, Thelma (Randy) Isaacson, Mark (Shar) Baldwin and Krista (Monte) Layton; many grandchildren, and siblings: Monty Bates and Jean Oliver.  She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 1 sister-in-law, 2 brothers-in law, grandsons: Steven Baldwin and Ben Sims.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Church located at 2333 S. 2700 W., in West Haven, Utah on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the same church on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and prior to services from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at the West Haven Cemetery.
