Leroy Everett Weber was born prematurely in Auburn CA to Lewis D. and Dessell Watson Weber. A late in life baby, Roy was not expected to live but grew healthy and strong. He had older nephews and nieces and by the time he went to high school, everyone called him Uncle Roy. Both his parents passed by the time he was a senior in high school and had to make grown-up decisions at an early age.
He joined the Coast Guard and was stationed on Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco Bay in the early 60s as a cook on the buoy tender USCGC Willow maintaining buoys up and down the Northern California coast. Roy was proud of his military service and never missed an opportunity to thank uniformed soldiers and sailors for their service.
Roy spent most of his career at Puget Sound Energy in Seattle, WA. He just called it the Gas Company where he serviced the roasting equipment at the original Starbucks in Seattle. Earlier in his life, he owned a service station, packed fruit, and later did home inspections in Salt Lake.
Roy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fly fishing and hunting in the Sierras of Northern California. He preferred to live a simple life, free of gadgets and complications of modern 21st century life. He liked to explore new places, which took him to military academies, many of the national parks in Utah, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and anywhere he could visit family.
He loved his family and was our North Star and moral compass. Always willing to lend a helping hand, a finer man you will never meet. He is survived by his son, Tom Weber of Auburn CA; daughter, Carrie (Jon) Clegg of West Haven UT; daughter, Amy (Scott) Liljestrand of Ann Arbor MI; nephew, Mark Haase of Santa Fe NM; niece, Lydia Haase of Pickerington OH, nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was active in the First Baptist Church of Roy where there will be a memorial service to celebrate his life on Saturday, January 30th at 11:00am, 2025 W. 5700 S. in Roy, UT. Please bring your face masks and socially distance to protect you against COVID-19, which is what took our beloved Roy’s life far too soon. The service will also be broadcast live online.
