1934 – 2021

“Together Again”

Lowell S. West Jr. passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at his home in West Weber, Utah of natural causes. He was born on June 10, 1934 to Evelyn Gertrude Hurst and Lowell Shell West Sr. in Burbank, CA. when he was 8 years old, he went to live with his aunt Maude and Uncle Harry after the death of his parents. When he was a sophomore in high school he went to live with Don and Leah Mary Parker in California. He become part of their family and had instant family of 3 brothers and 6 sisters.

He joined the Navy in 1954 and was a gunners’ mate on the Destroyer, John A Bole DD755. He was honorably discharged in 1958. After serving in the Navy, he went to BYU in Provo, Utah where he received his Bachelor’s degree in secondary education. While at BYU he met his sweetheart Carole Flamm and was married on September 1, 1961 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

He taught at Panguitch High School for 4 years. He then taught at Roy School High for 28 years. He retired in 1996 after 32 years of teaching History and Special Education. He went on to work with the Life Program through Weber School District as a Job Coach for 4 years.

During the summer months he had a Yard Care Service with his children and then when his children were all grown and moved to other jobs, he hired many young people to work with him and was able to teach them the value of hard work. This was a great opportunity to work together as family and build lasting memories.

He had many church callings that included executive secretary to the bishop and stake clerk and served in the High Priest group. His favorite calling was being a faithful home teacher.

He is survived by his 5 children, David L West, Steven L West (Julie), Janeil Turner (Marshall), Brian C West (Sally) and Deon Kirkwood (Brendon). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carole Flamm West; grandson Aaron Lowell West; his parents and Don and Leah Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the West Weber Third Ward, 900 South 4100 West, a viewing will be held prior from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment at West Weber Cemetery. Funeral Services will be live streamed on Myers Website www.myers-mortuary.com the day of the service at 11 a.m. you may watch by going to the bottom of Lowell’s obituary. The service will remain on his obituary page indefinitely if you are unable to watch at this time.
