Marvin (Woody) Lee Woodward

April 12, 1944 ~ August 7, 2022 (age 78)

Marvin “Woody” Lee Woodward was born in Logan, Utah on April 12, 1944 to Elmer Jones & Sara Myers Woodward and passed away on August 7, 2022 from cancer.

He was the youngest of three siblings & shared his childhood with his older brother Duane and sister Kathryn. He attended Floradell Elementary, Wellsville Junior High & South Cache High School.  He worked alongside his father on the family farms for most of his childhood.  After losing his father at a young age, he joined the US Navy at age 17 on New Years Day in 1963.  He was stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas and worked in Aircraft Maintenance until he left the Navy as an E-3 Airman and returned to Wellsville.  After leaving the Navy, he gained employment at Hill Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor. He attended college and obtained a degree in Business Management.

He met and married Mildred Dodd and adopted her three girls, Edie May, Gracie Arleen & Marcia Jean. He and Mildred had two twin boys, Justin and Jeremy to complete the family.  After divorce, he married LaRae Spencer and retired from Hill Air Force Base to become her caregiver until he lost her to cancer in 1999.  He met, fell in love and married Allison Shields.  They spent 22 years together and were sealed in the Ogden Temple on May 12, 2022.

In 2019, he lost his son Justin in an accident and Woody & Allison became parents to Justin’s son, Hunter Lee.  They moved from Clinton to a home in Hooper where they have found many lifelong friends.

Woody loved water skiing, boating, hunting and fishing with his children.  He also loved his cars and spent a lot of time restoring his 1969 Camaro’s and showing them at car shows where he won many trophies.  He later began racing his Camaro’s and spending time with his cousin Gary and Chris at the races. He later purchased a 1979 Camaro from New York which became his sole racing car.  He was able to reach speeds of nearly 149 mph in the quarter mile track at Rocky Mountain Raceway with the car. He also enjoyed his four-wheelers and made many trips to the desert and up Willard Peak with his sons and friends.

His greatest joy in life was supporting and caring for his family. Woody loved to socialize with good friends over a meal for many years at a local restaurant where his wife Allison often sang and made many great friends there over the years.  After many years of enjoying an active and healthy life, he developed many disabilities that forced him into a mobility chair.

Woody was a wonderful son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  One of his happiest days was when he was able to baptize his wife and grandson Hunter Lee into the church.

Woody is survived by his wife Allison & children, Edie May, Gracie Arleen, Marcia Jean and Jeremy Lee (Amy), Grandchildren: Andrea, Arlin, Dillon, Tiegra, JJ, Wesley, Cleata, Morgan, Quinn, Crystal, Jeremy Brayden, Austin, MaKai, Brenen, Hunter, Gavin, Carson and Grace, numerous great-grandchildren and sister Kathryn (Farrell) Nielsen.

Woody was preceded in death by his grandparents Kathryn and Edwin Myers, Jessie and Hyrum Woodward, parents Elmer Woodward and Sara Olsen, Brother Duane, Son Justin and Mother-in-law Ruth Nelson Miner.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to CNS (Community Nursing Services) Hospice for the exceptional care during his last days.  Many thanks to the LDS community in Hooper, Utah and the Quail Meadows Ward.
