Melva “Jean” Schultz, 78, passed away November 22, 2022, at French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, CA. She was born May 27, 1944, in Salt Lake City, UT to Melvin Ballard and Eva Kurtz Peart. When Jean was born her dad was serving in the US Army Air Corps in Europe.  After his return from the war in 1945 they returned to the University of Wyoming in Laramie WY. After completion of their bachelor’s degree her dad worked for Western Union and they lived in Kansas City, Oklahoma City and New Orleans.  In 1949 they returned to the family dairy ranch in Evanston WY where Jean lived until 1955.  The family then moved to Seattle WA where they resided for 4 years.  They then moved to Brigham City Utah where she attended school and graduated with honors  from Box Elder High School. She spent the summers of 1961 and 1963 living in Washington DC.

From 1962-1966 Jean attended BYU where she minored in Business and majored in Sociology.  Jean married Steve Hess in May of 1966 and remained in Utah until 1968 and they later divorced. She moved to the California Bay Area in 1968. She married Mike Schultz in December of 1971 in Zephyr Cove, NV and they later divorced. During these years Jean had 4 children. She moved a lot during the next several years to OR, UT, and CA where she spent many years in both Northern and Southern CA.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a very successful career in Sales as the District Sales Manager for Nucor Steel and covered the Western Territory.  She retired after 20 years with Nucor. She was a member of and served as National President for the Association of Women in the Metal Industry (AWMI). She was a member and served as President of The Assistance League in the Inland North County San Diego Chapter where she ran Operation School Bell. She served in many capacities in her community by being a member of Women’s Club of Arroyo Grande, New Comers Group, many card groups, and other local organizations on the Central Coast of CA where she spent the last several years of her life. She enjoyed playing golf and gathering with friends and family to play cards and games.

Jean was full of life and was strong willed and determined. She had a spunky personality and loved and supported her children and was very caring and giving to everyone.
