Nola Jean Moore Obituary

On April 19, 2024, Nola Jean Moore peacefully passed from this life into the next.

Nola Jean was born September 23, 1929 to Rodney and Alice Beus. She grew up on a dairy farm in Hooper where she first learned the value of hard work. She attended Hooper Elementary and graduated from Weber High. Upon receiving a music scholarship for playing the viola, she attended Weber College.

In 1949 she married Art Moore and together they built their life surrounded by family and friends in their Hooper home which would welcome a continuously growing family for the next 74 years. She spent her early years of motherhood working in the home. When her youngest was close to school age, she worked for a few years as a helper in the school lunch program and then she took an opening at Hooper Elementary where she made her career as the librarian, retiring in 1994. She was frequently approached by students who remembered the books she read and the great influence she was in their lives.

Nola Jean was active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, where she was honored for 50 years of membership. She was also a member of the Hooper Women's Club for about 65 years. Her participation in these groups provided her a full life of service opportunities, close friendships, and ways to continually be learning.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and Cub Scouts. She will be remembered for her years as the stake camp director. Despite her various callings, she said her favorite one was being over the cleaning of the ward meetinghouse. This calling provided her with a way to show her reverence to the Lord and His house, while also using her excellent skill of organizing and directing others (Her husband, Art, would agree that she used this skill regularly.)

Nola Jean enjoyed working outdoors in the large family garden and her many flower beds. She wasn't happy unless she was moving or working which is something that lasted well into her last few years of life.

Nola Jean is survived by her children Christine Horrocks, Ricky (Teresa) Moore, Susan (Brent) Coles, and Dale (Kim) Moore; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; siblings Charles Beus and Eileen Cook.

Nola Jean was preceded in death by her sweetheart, J. Arthur Moore; three sons, Johnny, Dwight, and David; daughter-in-law, Irene Moore; grandson, Tim Sleight; her parents; and her siblings, Colleen Tippets and Richard Beus.

The family expresses their deepest appreciation Community Nursing Services, especially Andrea and Crysten, for their caring service over the past year.
