Nora B Thurgood Stephens was born October 7, 1931 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Lee and Vera Thurgood. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to West Point, Utah. Her siblings are Vera Lee Redd, John Thurgood, Dean Thurgood, Leon Thurgood, Ruth Gale, and Debbie Wilbur.

She graduated from Davis High School. She then attended and graduated from Utah State University in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1965 she completed her Master’s Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in physical education. She continued to educate herself and kept her teaching certificate current until she was 67 when her last child graduated from BYU.

Nora was interested in many things from sewing to crossword puzzles and current affairs. She was an avid reader, sometimes staying up all night to finish just one more page. She was an accomplished violinist and played for many years with the New American Symphony. She also played the organ and piano and dedicated her musical talents in serving others.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in her ward and stake.

Nora served for 8 years in the Utah House of Representatives for District 13. She had a special interest in child welfare and health care, and worked diligently to pass legislation to lower the blood alcohol level.

Her greatest joy was her husband and family. She married Allen Stephens in the Logan Temple on June 20, 1953. They had seven children, 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband, Allen, her son, Lee Stephens, and 2 grandchildren.
