BREA, CA—Owen Austin Kearns, M.D., was born July 8, 1909, in Gunnison, Utah, to Nelce Franklin Kearns and Carrie Belle Mayfield. He was raised in Morgan where he received his primary education. He later attended Weber State, the U of U and Northwestern University where he studied medicine.

Dr. Kearns honorably served his country during WWII as a flight surgeon with the Army Air Corp. During his career, he practiced as a physician in Southern California, taught at the University of Missouri and was the Kern County (California) Health Officer before his retirement.

Dr. Kearns was a devoted member of the LDS church and had the privilege of serving as an Ordinance Worker and Sealer in the Los Angeles Temple.

He is survived by his daughter, Marguerite McEldery; his son, Owen A. Kearns, Jr.; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Matthew, Devrah, Jocelyn, and Scott; nieces, Judy Wilson and Karen Fronk; and nephew, Grant Michael Kearns.

Those preceding him include his wife, Helen; sister, Laura Lee Haag; and brother, Grant F. Kearns.
