Queen Esther Dorby

October 15, 1941 ~ September 5, 2023 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Obituary

Queen Esther Green Dorby, known as Queenie to those who held her dear, stepped into the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 5, 2023.  Born in Stephens, Arkansas on October 15, 1941, a daughter of Ester Green and Alberta Hunter. Queen was a beacon of love, generosity, and laughter, whose presence would light up any room she entered.

Queen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  Queen completed her formal education in Stephens, Arkansas.  Queen left Arkansas, moving to Ogden Utah, where she met her loving husband Andrew Dorby.  From that union came 3 daughters.  They also raised 2 nieces, Sheree Lee and Teresa Wright.  Queen devoted her life to her family, her work and her community.  Queen was a loving mother and supportive friend.  Her amazingly funny expressions brought joy and comfort to all who knew her.

Queen graduated from Stephen Henager College and was a clerk by profession, working diligently at Internal Revenue Service and Hill Air Force Base for many years.  Her accomplishments were not just limited to her professional life.  She was a charter member of Second Baptist Church, a proud member of the Black Women’s Society, and Women of the Elks, where she made a significant impact.

A generous heart, Queen's hobbies extended beyond personal enjoyment to acts of service. She found immense joy in cooking for her loved ones, visiting the sick, and caring for everyone around her. She had a special place in her heart for children, often going above and beyond to ensure their happiness and well-being. As the scripture says, "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." (Hebrews 13:16). Queen lived these words each day, her life a testament to her faith and love for others.

Queen is survived by her devoted daughters, Annette (Anthony) Marks, Arnae (Anthony) Russell, Adrienne (Billly Graham) Dorby, four grandchildren Quacee', Devin, Arica and Nia, two great-grandchildren Curtess and Tayvian, siblings Mary Helen, Anna, Lou, Gloria, Ester Jr., and George; special friends Lovey and Charlean; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents Ester and Alberta Green; stepmother Thelma Green; and her loving husband Andrew Dorby.
