Obituary

Richard “Dick” David Simmons

Roy—Richard “Dick” David Simmons, 85, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2002 from Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born July 20, 1916 in Oakley, Idaho to John J. and Bertha Sessions Simmons. He was educated in Oakley where he excelled in sports.

He later moved to Ogden, Utah where he worked for the American Car Company. He married Leona Campbell in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1939. She passed away on July 30, 1951. Dick then married Evelyn Stuart Knight on November 12, 1954. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake temple on April 8, 1960.

He worked at the Ogden Arsenal and Hill Air Force Base retiring after 31 years of service. He continued to work for J.D. Young Landscapers for several years following his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, five sons, three daughters, a brother, three sisters, 38 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. His surviving children are: Glen (LaNae) Simmons of Bountiful, John (Vikki) Simmons of Syracuse, Leona O’Shield of Ogden, Allen (Linda) Knight of Wyoming, Kenneth (Jan) Knight of Wyoming, Jean (Jim) Colvin of Farr West, Judy (Sam) Marvin of Florida, And Val (Michelle) Simmons of Hooper. His surviving siblings include his brother, Francis (Berdena) Simmons of Redmond, Washington and sisters Edna (Ike) Runchel of Roy, Vena Ransam of Ogden, and Peggy Zevery of California.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, two children, and three brothers.
