Richard “Dick” Rene' Mabey, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in his home with his loved ones at hand, two weeks shy of his 90th birthday. He was born December 2, 1933. Dick grew up in Clearfield, Utah and graduated from Davis High School. He continued his education at USU and Weber State College. He was the photo editor for all the school’s papers and also the yearbook photographer.
Prior to retiring from a long career with Hill Air Force Base, Richard served in the US Army.
After the divorce of his first wife, Sally Donoviel, he moved to the cabin in Nordic Valley, one that they had built with the weekend warrior/ski crew. He loved the mountains and he loved to ski. He taught ski lessons after work and on weekends. During the off season, and after work, he would hike up to the top of Skyline Ridge. Dick also volunteered at Antelope Island in the Fielding Garr Ranch where he had over 4000 hours.
Dick loved astronomy and if you could sit long enough you would’ve had a crash course on what was what. If he wasn’t looking at the sky at night he would be during the day. Whether it was a bird or a plane, if one flew over head, he would stop any conversation to check it out. More than likely he could tell you exactly what it was.
Dick met his loving and dedicated wife, Diane, at a work party where they had a blossoming life of 40 years together. They resided in Roy where their last three children graduated from Roy High School. He later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was sealed to Diane on June 26, 1999 in the Ogden Temple. Dick was a man of many stories, ones you could laugh at, roll your eyes, or just shake your head. One thing for sure, no matter if you call him husband, dad, grandpa, or friend, he will be missed.
Dick is survived by his wife, Diane (Fowers) Mabey; his children, Eric (Debbie), Danielle (Dave), Greg, Christy (Mike) Trujillo, Teresa (Michael) McBride, Brian (Kristy) Grey. Dicks gems were his grandchildren, he had 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Dick was preceded by his parents, Lucille Valentine (Pullum) and Charles Myron Mabey; his brother, Charles “Chuck” Myron Mabey Jr.; and daughter, Elizabeth Mabey.
A very special health care provider, Corey Packer said, “Dick was the best part of my day. Every time I came, he always had a memory from his past to share with me, with a life lesson usually found within.”
