Robert "Bob" Larson Obituary

Robert Lee Larson, 93, passed away October 11, 2021, in his South Ogden home after a long illness. He was lovingly surrounded by his family including children and grandchildren.

He was born in Ogden, Utah, on August 23, 1928, to Alfred Willard Larson and Anna Florence Watson in the wonderful two-story brick home, known as “the house that Jack built”.

Robert had two older brothers Alfred and Bert and a younger sister Janet.

He attended Ogden High School and Weber State College and then joined his brother Bert at Utah State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree.

As a young boy he had rheumatic fever.  During his recovery he often listened to classical music on the radio. His love of music grew to the extent that he decided to major in music while at Utah State University. He was privileged to be mentored by Roy Harris a renowned American composer. During this time, he also composed an original string quartet as part of his required musical education. He considered it an honor to have been taught by Roy Harris.

After graduation he taught music in Ririe, Idaho for a short time and in 1950 he was drafted and assigned to the 8th Army band and stationed to Seoul, South Korea. Robert served in the US Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War.

He then attended University of Utah Graduate School of Social Work, where he earned his Master’s degree.

He worked for Child Welfare Services and became the Director for Weber/Morgan County and later a Social Worker for Davis School District, where he retired.  Robert also served as the Northern Utah Chairman for the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Precinct Chair, and County and State delegate for the Democratic Party.

Robert was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served as the 1st Counselor in the Bishopric, Executive Secretary, High Counsel, High Priest Leader, and many other callings.

He enjoyed photography, singing, piano, music, gardening, and cooking. He was an amateur geologist, and amateur train conductor. He and his wife enjoyed long car rides and vacations with and without their children.

Robert is survived by his wife Patricia Larson, children Robert (Rachael) Larson, Karin (Robert) Richens, Jeannie (Bart) Hubbard, Dana Heiner, Elizabeth (David) Donaldson and Cheryl (Robert) Dodd, 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Bert (Betty) Larson.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Anna Watson Larson, brother Alfred J. Larson, sister-in-law Verleen Gren Larson, sister Janet Larson Wood, brother-in-law Nile Wood, father and mother-in-law Richard and Melba McDonald Burrows, and granddaughter Trinity Heiner.

Robert will be remembered for many accomplishments, but most of all for his empathic nature and kindness towards other people.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Utah Hematology Oncology Clinic nursing staff and Jan Davis APRN for all her medical expertise, kindness and patience that kept our father, husband, and grandfather with us for three more years. Pat would like to thank all of her children for the extra care given to their beloved father, with a special thank you to Liz for devoting her life to be a caregiver, coordinate appointments, medication, and give endless time and love for both her parents.

We would also like to thank neighbors and ward members for their kindness and prayers, with special thanks to our visiting angels, Margie Moffett, Karen Ottesen, and Bishop and Penny Heiner.
