Rodney "Rod" Lund Obituary

Rodney LaVelle Lund of Ogden, Utah passed away at age 90 on September 9, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones.  Rod was born May 27, 1931, in Brigham City, Utah to Vernal Hansen Lund and Mona Lucille Caddy.  In his youth, Rod worked in the family-owned E&M Cafe. Rod graduated from Box Elder High School in 1949.  That same year, Rod joined the United States Air Force and served as a RADAR Observer during the Korean Conflict.

After being discharged from the military, Rod met his life-long sweetheart Nancy Lee Hedin. They were married September 3, 1954 in Brigham City and sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Temple on July 28, 1965.

Rod was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Rod served many years in the scouting program, donating countless hours of his time to campouts and other scouting adventures. Rod also served in many leadership callings.  In 1998, Rod and Nancy served a mission in Mexico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  In his later years, Rod enjoyed serving with Nancy in local assisted living centers.

Rod worked in the electronics field at Hill Air Base, Western Union Telephone and Teletype Company, and the Defense Depot during the Iraq War until his retirement in 1998.

Rod loved family barbecues, camping and fishing at Marsh Lake, gardening, cheering on the Jazz and BYU, visiting with family and friends, and letting everyone know how much they were loved with endless teasing and hugs.

Rod is preceded in death by: Wife, Nancy; Sons, Dennis and Garry Dillard; Daughter-in-Law Brenda; Siblings: Jack, Robert, and Lani Schlaick; Grandchildren: Willa and Lyle.

He is survived by: Children: Gary (Valorie), Clark (Annette), Judy, Michele Tolman (Phillip), and Janet Dillard; Siblings: Sherril McNeely, Dennis, and Douglas. He was adored by his 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and many others whom he loved as his own.
