Ronald "Ron" Ben Myers

August 28, 1945 ~ November 17, 2021 (age 76)

Obituary

Ronald B. Myers, 76, died Wednesday, November 17, 2021, following a short illness. He was born August 28, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, the middle son of three boys to Alvin J. and Fay Chatelain Myers.

Ron grew up on a small farm in the town of Wilson, Utah (now known as West Haven). He attended Weber County schools and graduated from Weber High School in 1963. Ron worked one summer for the Union Pacific Railroad, stationed in Eugene, Oregon. He then attended Weber State College and after completing several months of technical training, began working at Hill Air Force Base in 1966. While attending Weber State, he participated with the Weber State College Rodeo Team and took second place nationally. He retired from HAFB in 2000, after 34 years of service. Ron married Nancy Harrison in 1971 and they later divorced.

Growing up on a small farm was a real adventure and created many memories for Ron, such as riding horses, swinging over the swimming hole on a rope, hunting pheasants and magpies, playing baseball at the Wilson School, riding bikes and repairing bike tires riddled with puncture vines. As early as 12 years old, Ron began using a shotgun to hunt pheasants with his dad, brother and faithful hunting dog. There were lots of hunts with his brother, Reed, and his nephews – everything from pheasants to rabbits to prairie dogs.

Ron loved rodeos. He was a calf roper and team roper for many years and traveled all over the state. He spent many of those years roping on his favorite black quarter horse named Blackie. He was very successful and won many belt buckles and awards. In 1974 Ron was the RMRA calf roping champion and won a new saddle. He made several trips to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. He would also record the finals on TV so he could edit out the commercials because he hated commercials.

After Ron bought his boat, he would take his brothers and his nephews fishing every year to Henry’s Lake and Yellowstone. He also enjoyed fishing at East Canyon and Strawberry Reservoir. He especially enjoyed watching fishing and hunting shows on TV. Ron spent many fun times on the golf course with his nephews.

Ron loved to eat at the Maddox Ranch House in Perry and treated family and friends to meals there many times. He always made sure to order fried chicken to give to his dog, Scooter.

Ron had many cherished friends during his life. Some years ago, he and his best friend, John Watson, took up trap shooting. They bought the latest in shotguns and loaded their own shells. They won a lot of contests and were well known in the trap shooting circuit.

Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Reed and Janice Myers; one niece and three nephews, DeLyn (Michael) Bouck, Darin (Brandy) Myers, Ryan Myers, Kevin (Andrea) Myers; 12 grandnephews/nieces; and his favorite dog, Scooter. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ray Myers.
