Rose Thielen Obituary

Our beloved Bubbe passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, surrounded by family at her home. She was born on February 6, 1934, in the Bronx, NY to George and Bella (Katz) Leibow. On August 7, 1954, she was married to the love of her life Edwin Thielen, Jr. at Lowry AFB in Denver. Together they raised two children and celebrated 52 years of marriage before Ed passed away in 2006.

Known as Bubbe to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rose was devoted to her family. Though she was under five feet tall, her personality could fill an entire room. She was funny and quirky, and loved to sit around the kitchen table talking about life, politics, and whatever she was watching on TV.

She volunteered at Lakeview Elementary School as a reading tutor, where she enjoyed getting to know the children, as well as the faculty and staff. She also volunteered for an adult literacy program. She enjoyed doing ceramics and was doing yoga in the 1980s, before it was cool.

Rose spent her time designing unique e-mail signatures, cuddling with her Siamese cat Miss Kitty, visiting with her family. She was a good listener and made everyone who knew her feel loved and valued. She was proud of her Jewish faith and was the spiritual heart of her family. We will miss her sparkling eyes, her mischievous smile, and her good heart.

She is survived by her children: Debra (Gary) Aplin of Roy and David (Diane) Thielen of Tooele; grandchildren: Aaron (Emily), Rebekah, Cristen, Adam (Theresa); and great-grandchildren: Michael, Oliver, Calie, Deven, Julia, Claire, and Paul. Also surviving is her brother Saul Leibow (Linda).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin Thielen, Jr., her brother Paul Leibow, and her great-granddaughter Eleanor Aplin.

Private funeral services were held Monday, March 13, 2023, followed by interment at the Roy City Cemetery.
