Ruth Afton Wagstaff Graves passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 5,2022 at home with her eternal companion and sweetheart, Donald, at her side. She was 96 years young.
Ruth was born September 13, 1925 in Perry Utah to William and LaVon Wagstaff. She was their firstborn, with three sisters, (Fern, Connie and Jean) and one brother (Dale) to follow.
Ruth attended schools in Salt Lake City and Ogden and graduated from Weber High School where she met and then married Donald. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 30, 1943 and enjoyed 78 years of marriage. Ruth was always busy. She said she could not just sit and do nothing. She enjoyed crocheting, making pieced quilts, painting, stamp collecting, making bread, Family History, and being of service to others. Over the years, she made and donated hundreds of hats and lap quilts to various charities.
She served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School. She also served in the church’s Dry Pack Cannery with Donald for 10 plus years. She volunteered at North Ogden Elementary School for 15 years. Many children called her “Grandma Graves”
Ruth was able to achieve HER greatest goal in life, that of becoming a mother. She was blessed with six sons and six daughters. They are: Gary (Maurine), Leon (Susan), Allan (Ilene), Karen (Brian, deceased) Marsh, Laurie (Tom) Nelson, Debbie (David) Chadwick, Jan (Kent) Schmidt, Mark (Karla), Roger (Suzie), Brad (Debbie), Robin (Daren) Rawson, and Shelli (Robert) Cannon. She has 57 grandchildren, 161 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great grandchildren, with more coming.
The family would like to thank Shanna, Sidney and Shannon from Atlas Hospice for their tender care of Mom in her final days on this earth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 12 at 11:00 am at 2340 North Fruitland Drive, in North Ogden. A viewing will be held Tuesday January 11 from 6-8 pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT and at the church prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
