Sonya Johnson Obituary

Sonya Ann Adair was born September 6, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah, eldest daughter of Vee Ray Adair and Anneliese Dammaschke Adair.

Growing up in Salt Lake City as a teenager Sonya worked at Trolley Square and Liberty Park. She had a tan Mustang and loved to drive! In her youth, Sonya even traveled to Europe and made lifelong memories—an experience she fondly looked back on.

Sonya married Don A. Johnson July 16, 1983. Together they were blessed with five children: Sarah Michelle, Elijah Don, Jesse Ray, Race Aaron, and Kiah Jan. Sonya and Don made their home in beautiful Paradise, Utah while owning and operating their family business, Rocky Mountain Pawn.

Sonya enjoyed taking ordinary things and making them beautiful, and she had a knack for decorating (her front door was always a show piece!). She enjoyed sharing this passion with friends and family, who often left her home with small trinkets and knick-knacks that she had specially chosen for each of them.

The outdoors, sunshine, long drives, Christmas, positive quotes, and especially family gatherings were some of Sonya’s favorite things. She loved wholeheartedly, especially her children, and expressed this often through phone calls, notes, and random acts of kindness. Sonya made friends easily and shared her light with all she encountered. She was tiny but mighty and had a lot of love to give.

Sonya passed away peacefully in her home on February 7, 2024.

Sonya is survived by her children, Sarah (Roger) Lundquist, Eli Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Race (Amanda) Johnson, and Kiah Johnson; mother, Ann (Vern) Sisam; siblings, Pat (Scott) Nell and Lynn (Tammy) Adair; grandchildren, Adri, Nixon, Rylee, Kian, Lincoln, Beckett and Kason; and longtime companion, Don Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vee Ray Adair, and brother, Ray Michael Adair.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, and will take place Friday, February 16, 2024 at Paradise 1st ward chapel (9060 S. 200 W. Paradise, Utah). A visitation will take place from 9-10:30am with graveside services beginning at 11am in the Paradise City Cemetery.
