Trudy DeCantu Obituary

Trudy Mary DeCantu passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born in Bridgeport, CT on February 24, 1950 to Shirley Thibault and Nicholas Sosik. She later moved and grew up in Bangor, Maine. She is survived by the love of her life, Gary Gaz, her daughter Buffy, and two sons Andrew and Matthew. Her two sisters Shirley and Joann, and five brothers, Donnie, Bert, Joe, Calvin and Mark.

She moved to Utah in 1973 where she earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work at Weber State College and her Master’s in Social Work at Brigham Young University. She worked as a Social Worker for the Department of Children and Family Services for 25 years. She was a strong advocate for abused and neglected children.  She loved her job and made a difference to all those she helped and worked with.

She met the love of her life, Gary Gaz, in 1994. Together they traveled the world and had many adventures together. Most of their time was spent in Southern Utah. She particularly loved Lake Powell, and Canyonlands. She was always on the hunt for Petroglyphs and finding them was her passion. They had a very special bond and loved each other very much.

She was very feisty and stubborn but will always be remembered for her caring and compassionate ways. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her remains will be cremated and spread in her favorite places. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her name.
