Valene (Beck, Harker) Burrell (83) died December 29, 2018 at Roy, Utah.

Valene was a wonderful, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and favorite aunt. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ronald L. Harker and Owen R. Burrell. She is survived by her son, David R. Harker, his wife Jeanine and David’s children Jessica Ligon and Benjamin Harker along with Jessica’s husband Dan, their son James and Benjamin’s wife Morgan. Also surviving Valene are the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of her second husband Owen Burrell.

Valene’s health declined over the last several years. During that time she was sustained and uplifted by the support and friendship of her many friends and especially the continuous care and kindness of her friend and companion Charles Child and her devoted friend Michelle Parks. Valene’s family feels a special debt of gratitude to them, and to all those who stood by her during those difficult times.

Valene was the fourth of six children of Rulon (Whitey) and Elma Beck. She was preceded in death by her brothers Don Beck and Jay Beck and her sister Dawna Conklin. Surviving siblings JoAnn Fuerbringer and Robert Beck and their families join with the families of their nieces and nephews in mourning the death of their beloved sister and aunt.

Valene was born in Conda, Idaho in 1935. She graduated from Soda Springs High School in the class of 1953 and was proudly the first of her family to graduate from College, receiving her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Idaho State College in 1957. While at college she met Ronald Harker who she married shortly after graduation.

In 1958 the newly wed Harkers established their home in Roy, UT at the house Valene lived in until 2017. It is located near North Park School where Mrs. Harker (and later Mrs. Burrell) was teacher to generations of young mostly 4th graders, many of whom have maintained contact with her over the years as their children and in a few cases their grandchildren enjoyed the bounty of her loving personality that softened the edges of a rigorous 4th grade curriculum.

Valene was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, holding Ward and Stake leadership positions in the Relief Society and in her first love, the Primary. With her husband Owen Burrell she served a mission in the genealogy department at the Church headquarters in Salt Lake City.

Valene was a member of Arts International and had a great love of art and music, serving at times as Primary and Ward Chorister.
