William (Bill) R. Horton, 88, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 surrounded by family at his North Ogden home. He was born on July 17, 1933 in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. He was one of eight children born to Lawrence Morris Horton Sr. and Anna Mary Snoke.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1956.
When Bill returned from Germany, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission.
After returning from his mission, Bill married his sweetheart, Jane Luella Steinmann, on June 14, 1963 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They were later sealed for time and all eternity on December 11, 1963 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. They lived near Hershey, Pennsylvania before moving to Ogden, Utah in 1965. After their family grew to ten children, they moved to Plain City, Utah in 1982. Bill and Jane later moved to North Ogden in 2002. His eternal companion Jane passed away October 20, 2007.
Bill worked at Hill AFB for 27 years before retiring in 1992. During his employment he worked on instrument repair, as an instructor for civilian personnel, on the 1550th helicopter wing and as equipment specialist in material management.
Bill was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was his pleasure to serve a mission with Jane in 1999 to the Romania Bucharest Mission. He loved to teach and enjoyed serving on the High Council, in the Sunday School and his Priesthood Quorums. He also served in the Ogden, Utah Temple and cherished his time spent there.
Bill is survived by his ten children: Susan (Rueben) Blancas, Colorado; Stephen (Terri) Horton, Colorado; Aaron Horton, Utah; Leah (Max) Alley, Indiana; Rachel (Ed) Kennedy, Utah; David (Elisabeth) Horton, Utah; Ruth (Todd) DellaSilva, Montana; Mary (David) Porter, Arizona; Jonathan (Shawnette) Horton, Utah; and Benjamin (Marilyse) Horton, Utah.
