Our loving mother, Jeane Barker Morton, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2018. She was born on August 7, 1922 in Logan, Utah to William Whitney Barker and Alta Brown Barker. After her mother’s passing, she was raised by her father and her stepmother, Sara Ford Barker. On November 1, 1956, she married Edward Dwayne Morton in Ogden, Utah. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2015.

She grew up in Ogden and attended Polk Elementary, Ogden High, and Weber State College. In WWII, she enlisted in the Cadet Nurse Corps and attended nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital. Following graduation, she taught at MGH and later returned to Utah where she was an instructor in the St. Benedict’s School of Nursing.

She worked as a lifelong nurse and nurse educator, and she also participated as a volunteer for many organizations including the American Red Cross, the Utah Chapter of the MS Society, and the Utah Nurses Association. She was very proud to serve on both the Institutional Review Board and Board of Trustees at St. Benedict’s Hospital.

In addition to being a truly great mother, she was an avid reader and book group member. She also loved to play bridge, serve wonderful home-cooked meals, create delicious pies and cakes, and do needlework. Finally, her dogs always held a special place in her heart and in her home.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Ruth (Roland) Morton-Miller, Cathy Jane Morton, her Utah niece, Penny Woolley, and nephews, Jeffery Blakeley and William Blakeley, and their extended families, as well as her Texas nephew and nieces and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William W. Barker and Alta Brown Barker, her infant daughter, Sally Ann Morton, her stepmother Sara Ford Barker, her sister, Ruth Barker Blakeley, and her husband, Edward D. Morton.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:30 am at Ogden Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the educational or charitable healthcare organization of your choice.
