Ronald Ward Halbert SR
October 31, 1936 - May 29, 2018
At this time, my daughter, Nancy Wright, is helping me write my obituary. As all who know me, I always had to have the last word and have to tell the story my way!

I was born in Salt Lake City, UT to Elmer and Wanda Halbert at the old General Hospital. I graduated from Superior High School located in Superior, Wyoming.

I met Ruth Della Brady on New Year’s Eve 1954. I fell deeply in love. After a 6 month courtship, we married on June 23 1955. I have had the joy of spending and loving Ruth for the last 62 years of my life. I have been blessed with 6 beautiful children, 5 girls and 1 boy. Our eldest Wendy Kay Bowers (Lee), Janet Ruth Farnsworth (Brent), Dixie Jean Colvell (John), Rhonda Lee Goodrum (Jason), Ronald Ward Halbert JR (Lisa) and our youngest Nancy Wright (Chad). My children blessed me with 22 grandkids and 27 great grandkids. I was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

I was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve on July 31, 1963.

I spent my professional life mainly in the lumber and construction business. I started at Georgia Pacific Corporation in 1959 selling lumber products. In 1969, I struck out on my own. Ruth and I moved to Roy, UT and I opened Builder Bargain Center. Over the next years, I opened 2 additional lumberyards and Halbert Construction. In 1988, we moved to Moab, UT and opened Moab Building Center and a convenience store, K&R Foods.

Sports have always been big in my life. When younger I played fast pitch softball. I played in 4 World Fast Pitch Softball Tournaments. I also enjoyed bowling getting my average to 196. Golf was the sport I enjoyed the most. I fell in love with the golf course while living in Moab. I became President of the Moab Country Club.

Family was always very important to me. I believed in spending time together with my family on vacations and time outdoors. I enjoyed watching my kids participate in school activities and sports while they were growing up. When my son was younger, I spent numerous hours coaching him. Later in my life, I spent time with Ruth watching my many grandkids participate in the sports they love, watching my son coach high school football, making day trips to Wendover, playing Yahtzee for household chores, and taking care of my fur babies, Jimmy and Ruby.

I was preceded in death by my parents (Elmer and Wanda Halbert), sister (Dixie), and 2 grandsons (Casey Holley, Michael Kearns) and 1 great grandson (Gage Goddard). I am survived by my loving wife, Ruth, my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I want all my family and friends to know I love them immensely and I had an amazingly blessed life!

The Halbert Family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice, especially, Anna Marie for those long hard difficult nights, Lissa and Renee for equally hard daytime visits. In addition, Asillin, for the being there the night Ronald Halbert returned to his Heavenly Father. You all helped him pass with dignity.

My Husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend you were always so full of life. Making a positive impact on everybody you met. Your spirit remained positive and upbeat even at the end. You fought with all your strength to remain with Ruth and all of your kids and family. Until we meet again.
