LuVerne (Lu) Frances Breen, beloved wife of Alfred (Bud) Breen, passed away on June 12, 2018. Lu was born near Mobridge, South Dakota, on October 19, 1921. Her early years were spent in Ipswich, South Dakota where she met and later married Alfred, “Bud” Breen on January 4, 1939. During World War II, Bud served in the army. In 1945, they moved to Igloo, South Dakota (Black Hills Army Depot) where Bud joined the police force. There they made many lifelong friends. Lu belonged to the Catholic Alter Society and also worked as a librarian for a time. She was paramount in starting a little theatre group. She found much joy in acting and directing; the performances were always well attended and enjoyed by the community.

In 1965, when the army depot closed they relocated to Roy, Utah where Bud worked at Hill Air Force Base and Lu found employment at Weber County Hospital. She found much satisfaction in helping others. She also discovered a new outlet for her creativity - painting and poetry. She won several awards and sold some of her paintings. Lu delighted in singing and was a member of the choir at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She and her grandson, David Breen attended World Youth Day, when Pope John Paul II was there to address the young people of America. In 1992 her daughter-in-law, Candice Breen, accompanied her to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. One of the thrills of her life was when the St. Rose Choir was chosen among others to sing at a Mass at the Basilica in Rome, Italy, which was officiated by John Paul II. LuVerne loved her Lord, was devoted to him and said her rosary every day.

Lu is survived by her children, Mark (Barbara) Breen, Judy Roth, Bob (Candice) Breen; 18 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Frank Doonan; her husband, Bud; sister, Valera Keller; beloved daughters, Linda Lu (Tim) Ahern and Karen (Denis) Smith.

Thank you to the Barrington Place Staff for the compassionate and loving care given to our mother and family.
