William “Ronald” Johnston, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2018. He was born on March 28, 1938 in Tremonton, Utah to Thomas and Ethel Beus Johnston. Ron attended the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind, the California School for the Deaf at Berkley, and Weber State. He graduated from the Aircraft School at the top of his class, having no interpreter.

Ron married his sweetheart, Nancy “Carol” Gunnell, on November 23, 1964 in the Logan Temple. Together, they raised 5 children. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Branch Presidency of the Deaf Branch for many years.

He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 30+ years and 25 years for the school for the Deaf and Blind. Ron enjoyed sports, including basketball and baseball, but football was his favorite. He coached his boys while they played football and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his wife.

Ron is survived by his wife, Carol; his children: Bruce (Laurie) Johnston, Mike (Cheri) Johnston, Bonnie (Roland) Walker, Connie (Gen Hill) Ruberry, and Blaine (Michelle) Johnston; 22 grandchildren; and 6 plus 1 on the way great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Katrina, and his sister, Lois Manning.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the Ogden Valley Branch for the Deaf, 5640 S. 850 E., South Ogden. A viewing will be held prior to the service at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Hooper City Cemetery.
