Obituary

Thaine “Tug” S Hansen, 67, died Wednesday, August 1, at his home in Roy, Utah.

Born on Christmas Day, 1950, in Montpelier, Idaho, Thaine was raised in Garden City, Utah by his parents, Russell Saxton Hansen and Lila Janet Sharp Hansen. Growing up he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and numerous other outdoor activities. He attended elementary through senior high at North Rich High School where he played football and basketball, and also placed first in state on the debate team.

Upon graduation from high school, Thaine married Dayle Chelane Mattson on May 26, 1969. Together, they raised four children: son Travis Thaine Hansen (Jennifer), son Patrick Corey Hansen (Shalynn), daughter Tarie Chelane Hansen-Ramirez (Claudia), and daughter Kandace Ann Diggs (Brian). Thaine and Chelane divorced in 2011.

Thaine was a Vietnam veteran and served his country for two years on active duty in the United States Air Force, and then 24 more years in the USAF Reserves before retiring as a MSgt. After retirement, Thaine continued to work at HAFB in a vast civil service capacity.

On February 11, 2011, Thaine and Teresa Dillingham were married and resided in Taylorsville, UT. They divorced in June, 2018.

Thaine was an avid gun and knife collector. He had a passion for traditional country music, motorcycles, cars, welding, fixing things, taking detours, getting lost and telling “stories”. He loved supporting all of his children and grandchildren, as well as many other friends, in all of their various hobbies and pursuits. A tremendously skilled mechanic and handyman, family and friends often called on him to help in times of need and crises and, without fail, Thaine was always there with kindness and generosity.

Thaine attended Utah State University, Weber State University, was active in the LDS Church for most of his life, and he held numerous side jobs throughout the Wasatch front.

Thaine leaves behind his four children, 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, his brother Wendell Hansen (Linda), and his sister Donna Pugmire (Donald). He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lila, as well as his siblings Earl (Dianna), Earlene, and Mary Kay.

A memorial service will be held at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah, 84067 on Thursday, August 16, at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made at America First Credit Union, “Thaine S Hansen Memorial Fund”, account #9104498.
