LaVon Skeen Hancock
April 24, 1927 - May 10, 2019

On Friday, May 10, 2019, our beautiful mom was called home to her Heavenly Father and was reunited with our dad.

Mom was born April 24, 1927, the first child of John A. (Jack) Skeen and Ruby Bailey Skeen. She was raised on a dairy farm in Taylor, Utah and made many happy memories with her younger brother, John LaMar, and younger sister, Jelean.

LaVon attended schools in Weber County and graduated from Weber High School in 1946. She married the love of her life, Gene H. Hancock on January 8, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple after his return from World War II. They were happily married almost 70 years prior to Gene’s passing in July 2016.

From this union came five children: RaeDene (Brent) Hodson; Shauna Hadley (Ed) Smith; Karla (Dave) Hall; Jeana (Neal) Berube and Blake (Terri) Hancock. Her posterity grew to include eighteen grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren, all who adore her and are proud to call her “Grandma”. Also surviving are a sister, Jelean (Robert) Montgomery and a sister-in-law, Carol Skeen.

Mom was a stay-at-home mother for many years before entering the workforce. She was employed at Bon Marche as a consultant in the china department for ten years and later as a Title 1 tutor for Weber School District, retiring after ten years of service. She gained many lifelong friendships through her years of employment.

Mom has traveled to many parts of the country, has enjoyed bowling on leagues during the winter and golfing with dad and friends in the summer. She was involved in organizing a women’s “club” that met monthly for over 42 years. She loved shopping, Girls Weekends with her daughters and is an avid fan of the Utah Jazz. She supported her children and grandchildren’s recitals and sporting activities. Mom loved parties and has hosted countless gatherings for family and friends over the years. Her Sunday dinners, Christmas Eve party and Easter Egg hunts will fondly be remembered by her children and grandchildren. Mom will also be remembered for her unconditional love for her family, her generous nature and her fun-loving spirit. She is extremely loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, mom served in various church callings and has served as a visiting teacher for over 60 years.

Mom was met in Heaven by her sweetheart Gene; her parents, Jack and Ruby Skeen; her brothers, John LaMar Skeen and Baby Skeen and a son-in-law, Alan S. Hadley, and may friends and relatives who have preceded her.

Heartfelt thanks to those caregivers, friends, neighbors and ward members who cared for mom and enriched her life through their love and service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the West Weber Ward House, 4100 W 900 S., West Weber where viewings will be held on Friday, May 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday prior to the service from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
