Merle Jean Thompson Gardner passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born October 5, 1931 in Elwood, Utah to Karl Albert & Bertha Ella Woodruff Brough Thompson. She was the youngest of 18. She played the violin in orchestra and was in the P.E.P. club. She graduated from Bear River High School.
Mom was very athletic; playing softball, bowling, chasing her children, and Indian leg wrestling.
She married her sweetheart Boyd Kent Gardner on September 10, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. They raised their five children on their dairy farm in Honeyville, UT. Her spouse and posterity brought Jean her greatest joy.
Jean served in many organizations in the LDS church; Cub Scout Leader, Primary teacher, Compassionate Service Leader, Young Women’s Leader, Relief Society Presidency, and visiting teacher.
Surviving is one sister, Chloe Ellis, 7 sisters in law, and 1 brother in law, five children: Shauna (Larry) Robbins, Craig (Michelle) Gardner, Jan Dixon, Julie (Scott) Nelson, Lisa (Todd) Hurlbert, 22 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.
Jean is preceded in death, by her husband. Boyd, son-in-law Sterling C. Dixon, and 16 siblings.
We would like to thank the Bear River Valley Care Center for their nearly three years of devoted service to our Mom.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Honeyville 2nd Ward Chapel, 2620 W. 6880 N., Honeyville, UT.
Viewings will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. at the Church.
She will be laid to rest in the Honeyville Cemetery.
