Obituary

Kay Wilks Winn returned to her heavenly home Thursday July 13, 2017 after a devastating short term illness. Born in Ogden Utah on May 20, 1952, she is the daughter of Fontella Anderson Wilks and Tobe (Osborne) Wilks. She married Thayne Winn 1974 in Ogden, Utah (later divorced). Kay is the loving mother of Jeffrey Don Winn and grandmother of Jeffrey Derek (JD) Winn, Bradley Thayne Winn, and Meadow Dawn Winn. Some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her son and holding her grandchildren. Kay loved animals - especially her dogs Hagen, Beasley, Buddy, and Toby. Her favorite t-shirt said: “Heaven: A Place Where All the Dogs You Ever Loved Run To Greet You.”
Kay blessed many lives. She loved her family and considered many others her adopted family. Although she was an only child, many fondly referred to her as “Sister” and “Aunt Kay.”
She attended Ogden City schools graduating from Ben Lomond High School in 1970. Kay earned her Associates Degree from Weber State University. She worked at the IRS and Hill Air Force Base with computers and as the NEPA Project Manager and retiring in 2010 after 38 years of service.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions including Stake Sports Director, Stake Young Women’s Counselor, Ward and Stake Camp Director, Primary Teacher and Gospel Doctrine Teacher and was loved by all.
She enjoyed close relationships with her “Sisters” Beth Cottam, Ilene Tippets and Family Home Evening group of friends. Together they camped, attended many plays and laughed through many vacations. Kay traveled to many parts of the US and world including Turkey, Egypt, Iceland, Greenland, Ireland, China, Israel, South Africa and many more. She especially enjoyed walking with and petting lions in Africa. She was a camping, card playing, outdoor cooking, and breast cancer survivor, hero friend. Kay also loved singing with the Ogden Wasatch Master Chorale.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Kay is survived by her son Jeffrey Don Winn (Amber Stinson) Farr West, Utah and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her “adopted” Cottam, Cheesman, Talbot, Tippets, Rackham and Bradford families.
Kay’s memorial service will be held Tuesday July 18, 2017 in the LDS ward chapel at 2550 S Bluff Road, Syracuse, Utah. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 with memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
